IAA Representatives at the OECD Audience: All
Earlier this month, IAA representatives attended two events at the OECD in Paris. Jason Malone, presented on the Impact of Inflation and the Current Financial and Economic Uncertainty on Pensions and Insurance Markets during a joint session of the Insurance and Private Pensions Committee (IPPC) and the Working Party on Private Pensions (WPPP).
President-Elect Micheline Dionne and Christelle Dieudonné presented at the OECD's Roundtable on Financial Protection Gaps for Disaster Risks, along with representatives of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors and Insurance Development Forum. Micheline and Christelle are pictured with Tim Bishop, Senior Expert in Finance and Insurance, Flore-Anne Messy, Head of consumer finance, Insurance and Pensions Division, Yoshi Kawai, Head of IPPC, Julia Cillikova, Head WPPP, Jessica Mosher, Policy Analyst, and Pablo Antolin, Head of the Private Pensions Unit.
Proposed ISAP 8 on Climate Related Disclosures

The Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) is expected to recommend to Council in May 2023, that the Strategic Plan for International Standards of Actuarial Practice (ISAPs) be amended to include a new ISAP (proposed ISAP 8) to complement the International Sustainability Standards Board’s (ISSB) proposed standard on Climate related disclosures (IFRS S2). The ISSB announced at COP 27 that they are planning to implement IFRS S2 in 2023.
The Due Process for ISAPs allows the Executive Committee to request and authorise the ASC to commence work on the Statement of Intent (SOI) for the ISAP, pending Council approval in May 2023. The Executive Committee at their meeting today (15 December 2022) granted their approval for the ASC to start work on the SOI for the proposed ISAP 8 with a well-defined purpose and narrow scope, to complement the ISSB’s IFRS S2.
The purpose of my writing to you is to seek nominations from you and your groups (and anyone else you think might be appropriate) for both Chair and members of this Task Force. Appointments to ISAP Task Forces are made by the ASC, and in the case of the Chair there is a preliminary discussion with the ASC leadership to explain the role. Appointments are expected to be made early in 2023, so that the Task Force can develop a Statement of Intent for the approval of the ASC for consultation in accordance with the Due Process for ISAPs.
Please do let Amali Seneviratne (amali.seneviratne@actuaries.org) have the names and brief details of the relevant experience of climate issues and/or standard setting (not essential to have that) as soon as possible, but in any case by January 16th. Please also note, we do not necessarily need climate specialists (though they are welcome to put their names forward!) and the subject matter will be focussed on climate related reporting.
