2025 IAA Election Results and Presidential Address The International Actuarial Association (IAA) is pleased to announce that, at its meeting in Tallinn, Estonia, the Council of the IAA approved the following individuals to serve as Officers of the IAA effective January 1, 2025.
Ms. Hinton’s involvement in the work of the IAA started in 2008 as a delegate of the Actuaries Institute Australia on several committees and working groups. Most recently, she served as Chair of the Education Committee (2016-2021) and Vice-Chair of the Resource and Environment Working Group (2013-2014). In addition, she served on numerous other entities notably the Professionalism, Nominations, and the Strategic Planning Committees, as well as being Australia’s Council Delegate. Her complete bio is available online. Ms. Hinton offered these comments upon assuming the position of IAA President: "Actuaries play a key role in helping society," said Ms. Hinton. "From quantifying climate-related risks to ensuring the sustainability of pension systems for aging populations, our profession transforms complex global challenges into manageable solutions. We combine mathematical expertise with practical insights to help businesses and governments make informed decisions that affect millions of lives. I am deeply honored to lead the IAA at this pivotal moment when our expertise is more crucial than ever.” Ms. Hinton’s presidential agenda emphasises expanding the profession's impact and influence. “Actuaries are active in emerging risk areas, particularly climate change modeling, the integration of artificial intelligence into insurance and pension systems, and in cyber risk assessment. There is opportunity for the profession to have a greater public voice in areas where actuaries can add value, and hence increase its impact. The IAA can also promote helping stakeholders better understand the role actuaries can play in managing global risks and promoting financial stability. An additional area the IAA can take a more prominent role is in providing actuarial viewpoints on relevant topics. Actuaries have so much to offer, and promoting the work that actuaries do can benefits all members.” “Finally, I want to thank all our volunteers and member associations for their hard work, inspiring ideas and continued support for the important work of the IAA. The success of the IAA is only possible with the collaboration and cooperation of you all. I welcome your continued support as we face ever greater challenges going in to 2025.” “In closing, I would like to thank my predecessors, Charles and Micheline, for their outstanding leadership and diligence in pursuing the goals of the IAA. I have learnt so much from them and hope I can live up to the high standards they have set. I wish you all a Happy New Year and look forward to a successful and productive 2025.” Ce communiqué de nouvelles est aussi disponible en français. | |
