Introducing the SOA Research Institute
Hello Volunteers and Partners,
First, thank you for all your efforts with actuarial research. We couldn’t accomplish all this work without you. In support of the Society of Actuaries’ (SOA’s) Long-Term Growth Strategy, I have the pleasure to announce our next step with research – the naming of the Society of Actuaries Research Institute. We will serve as the research arm of the SOA, continuing our focus on identifying, funding, developing and distributing critical research.
On Thursday, August 26, we’ll officially introduce the SOA Research Institute to the SOA membership and other stakeholders. The Institute will be a sub-brand of the SOA, dedicated to the advancement of actuarial practice research on risk to support the profession, the insurance industry and the public. Looking to the future, the Institute plans to seek more research partnerships, sponsor research, apply for research grants and create more primary research.
SOA President Roy Goldman, Ph.D., FSA, MAAA, CERA, noted, “I’m proud to announce this formation of the SOA Research Institute through which we will create a supporting brand to deliver trusted and innovative research, working with our valued membership and through new connections outside of the insurance industry. I’m pleased to see the Institute producing research for the public on current issues that have an actuarial context, such as on health care costs and the pandemic.”
You’ll notice changes to the research pages of the website to reflect these exciting developments. The research team and volunteers will continue to focus on the quality work we’re known for today. At the same time, we seek to expand our efforts as a data-driven research organization providing insights on risk research for the actuarial profession, businesses and the public. The Institute connects actuaries, academics, employers, the insurance industry, regulators, research partners, foundations and research institutions, sponsors and non-governmental organizations, building an effective network which provides support, knowledge and expertise regarding the management of risk.
I encourage you to repost the announcement on your social media, and to share in the excitement of this effort in supporting the SOA Research Institute and actuarial research.
