Email Security Quick Tips

Audience: All

As a general reminder about email security, we’ve put assembled some quick tips to help in case you encounter any suspicious or phishing emails.

  1. The message is marked super urgent
  2. The email account isn’t connected to the company/organization
  3. The return email address isn’t normal (not a recognized domain)
  4. The email asks you to confirm personal information
  5. The email is poorly written
  6. There is a suspicious attachment
  7. The email doesn’t use your name in the greeting
  8. The entire email is only a hyperlink

What should you do if you’re not sure?

If you get a puzzling email, pause before doing anything with it. Go over this list and look for clues. If you’re still not sure, the best thing you can do is contact the organization in question directly. Go directly to the organization’s website, call them or use their social media account, and explain what you saw in the email. If you see this happen with someone related to the IAA, please contact the Secretariat.
